Bereshit – Genesís – Chapter 2(1-3)

1Now the heavens and the earth were completed and all their host.
2And God completed on the seventh day His work that He did, and He abstained on the seventh day from all His work that He did.
3And God blessed the seventh day and He hallowed it, for thereon He abstained from all His work that God created to do.

Yeshayahu – Isaiah – Chapter 58(13-14)

13If you restrain your foot because of the Sabbath, from performing your affairs on My holy day, and you call the Sabbath a delight, the holy of the Lord honored, and you honor it by not doing your wonted ways, by not pursuing your affairs and speaking words.
14Then, you shall delight with the Lord, and I will cause you to ride on the high places of the land, and I will give you to eat the heritage of Jacob your father, for the mouth of the Lord has spoken.

Yeshayahu – Isaiah – Chapter 66(23)

23 And it shall be from new moon to new moon and from Sabbath to Sabbath, that all flesh shall come to prostrate themselves before Me,” says the Lord.

Yeshayahu – Isaiah – Chapter 56(1-2)

1So says the Lord, “Keep justice and practice righteousness, for My salvation is near to come, and My benevolence to be revealed.”
2Fortunate is the man who will do this and the person who will hold fast to it, he who keeps the Sabbath from profaning it and guards his hand from doing any evil.

Yirmiyahu – Jeremiah – Chapter 17(24-27)

24And it shall be if you hearken to Me, says the Lord, not to bring any burden into the gates of this city on the Sabbath day and to hallow the Sabbath day not to perform any labor thereon,
25Then shall there enter into the gates of this city kings and princes sitting on David’s throne, riding in chariots and with horses, they and their princes, the men of Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem, and this city shall be inhabited forever.
26And they shall come from the cities of Judah and from the environs of Jerusalem and from the land of Benjamin and from the lowland and from the mountain and from the Negev, bringing burnt offerings and sacrifices and meal-offerings and frankincense, and those bringing thanksgiving offerings to the house of the Lord.
27And if you will not hearken to Me to hallow the Sabbath day and not to carry burdens and to come into the gates of Jerusalem on the Sabbath, I will kindle a fire in her gates, and it will consume the palaces of Jerusalem, and it will not be quenched.

Nehemiah – Nehemiah – Chapter 13(18)

18Did not your ancestors do this, and our God brought upon us all this calamity, and upon this city, and you are increasing the wrath upon Israel by profaning the Sabbath?”

Yechezkel – Ezekiel – Chapter 20(19-20)

19I am the Lord your God: walk in My statutes, and keep My ordinances and fulfill them.

Tehilim – Psalms – Chapter 93

1The Lord has reigned; He has attired Himself with majesty; yea the Lord has attired Himself, He has girded Himself with might. The world also is established that it cannot be moved.

3The rivers have raised, O Lord, the rivers have raised their voice; the rivers have raised their depths.

SALMO 93

Chumash with Rashi

Parashat veto hab´rachah

Deuteromonio 33:(27-29)

Daily Tanya

Iggeret HaKodesh, end of Epistle 22

Furthermore, I earnestly ask of my esteemed listeners

On the above matters between man and G‑d, the Alter Rebbe referred to himself as merely “repeating reminders.” Here, however, as he begins to speak of the relationship between man and man, he uses stronger terms.

not to cast aside my words, in which I have asked that every man be upright and walk with integrity, just as1 “G‑d made man upright”;

nor to seek2 “numerous calculations” regarding3 “the pretexts of man’s steps and a person’s thoughts and devices.”

It is not man’s task to weigh the motives of his fellow.

For that is the work of heaven and not an occupation for flesh and blood.

Rather, every one should believe with absolute faith in the precept of our Sages,4 of blessed memory: “And be humble of spirit before every man,” without exception.5

For it is a true statement and a correct proverb that every man becomes better through his fellow.

Since every individual possesses specific qualities that others lack, the realization by disparate people that in essence they comprise one whole, enables them all to be complemented and perfected by each other.

Thus too it is written,7 “All the men of Israel associated together like one man.”

Just as one man is composed of many limbs and when they become separated this affects the heart, for from it there issues life,

therefore, by our truly being all like one man, the service [of G‑d] in the heart i.e., prayer will be firmly established.

And from the affirmative [you may infer the negative].9

(In keeping with Rabbinic usage, the bracketed clause is euphemistically omitted in the Hebrew original, and merely hinted at by “etc.”) I.e., when unity is lacking, the service of prayer is likewise imperfect.

That is why it is said,10 “To serve Him with one purpose” (literally, “with one part” or “with one shoulder”): only when all Jews fully unite in this way can it be said that they “serve Him.”

The Alter Rebbe resumes his plea to his chassidim: Therefore, my beloved and dear ones, I beg again and again that each of you exert himself with all his heart and soul to firmly implant in his heart a love for his fellow Jew,

and, in the words of Scripture,11 “let none of you consider in your heart what is evil for his fellow.”

Moreover, [such a consideration] should never arise in one’s heart [in the first place];

and if it does arise, for even a person who has attained the rank of a Beinoni cannot prevent a thought from presenting itself to his mind,

one should push it away from his heart12 “as smoke is driven away,” as if it were an actual idolatrous thought.13

For to speak evil [of another] is as grave as idolatry and incest and bloodshed.14

And if this be so with speech, [then surely thinking evil about another is even worse15];

for all the wise of heart are aware of the greater impact [on the soul] of thought over speech,

whether for the good or for the better.

May the good L‑rd, Who blesses His people with peace, bestow peace and life upon you forever more,

as is the wish of him who loves you deeply from heart and soul.

no dejar de lado mis palabras, en las cuales he pedido que todo hombre sea recto y camine con integridad, tal como “Di-s hizo al hombre recto”;

Además, [semejante consideración] nunca debería surgir en el corazón [en primer lugar];

Y si esto es así con el habla, [entonces seguramente pensar mal sobre otro es aún peor15];

ya sea para bien o para mejor.
