Las hijas de Zelofehad representan el amor de las mujeres Judías por la tierra de Israel.
Aunque se dan pocos detalles sobre las hermanas, la lectura muestra que eran mujeres inteligentes.
La inteligencia de las hermanas es evidente por la clara presentación de su caso. De hecho, Di-s mismo respaldó sus argumentos, diciendo: “Las hijas de Zelofehad han hablado correctamente”.

Números 27(1-11)
1 Las hijas de Zelofehad, hijo de Hefer, hijo de Galaad, hijo de Maquir, hijo de Manasés, de las familias de Manasés, hijo de José, se presentaron, y los nombres de sus hijas fueron Mahla, Noa, Hogla, Milca y Tirsa.
2 Se pararon delante de Moisés y delante de Eleazar el kohen y delante de los principales y de toda la congregación a la entrada de la Tienda de Reunión, diciendo:

6 El Eterno habló a Moisés, diciendo:
7 Las hijas de Zelofejad hablan con justicia. Ciertamente les darás una parte de la herencia junto con los hermanos de su padre, y les transferirás la herencia de su padre.
8 Habla a los hijos de Israel diciendo: Si un hombre muriere y no tuviera hijo, daréis su heredad a su hija.
9 Si no tuviere hija, daréis su heredad a sus hermanos.
10 Si no tuviere hermanos, daréis su heredad a los hermanos de su padre.
11 Si su padre no tiene hermanos, darás su heredad al pariente más cercano a él en su familia, quien la heredará. Esto quedará como estatuto decretado, como el Señor lo mandó a Moisés.
Las Hijas de Tzelofjad Solicitan una Parte en la Tierra
El Midrash dice
Un hombre llamado Tzelofjad falleció en el desierto, dejando cinco hijas – Majlá, Joglá, Noáh, Milká, y Tirtzá. Las cinco eran rectas, inteligentes, y cultas. En el tiempo de la muerte de Aarón, después de la cual sucedieron los eventos relatados aquí, ellas tenían casi cuarenta años de edad y no estaban casadas, dado que no pudieron encontrar esposos dignos.
Cuando oyeron a Moshé explicar que Eretz Israel sería distribuida de acuerdo con el número de varones, discutieron la materia entre sí.
“El nombre de nuestro padre será olvidado,” se dijeron una a la otra, “porque ningún heredero varón recibirá una porción en Eretz Israel asociada con su nombre. Dado que nosotras no tenemos hermanos, reclamemos la porción de nuestro padre en la Tierra, de tal modo su nombre será perpetuado.”
