Heavens, lend your ear and I will speak! Earth, hear what my mouth has to say! (Deut. 32:1)

Listen heavens and give ear, oh earth! (Isaiah 1:2)

Isaiah reversed Moses’ language. He asked the earth to lend its ear and called out to the heavens to listen.

Rabbi Akiva explained:

To whom do you say, “Lend your ear?” To someone who is close to you.

So Isaiah, who stood on the earth, asked the earth to lend an ear. But to heaven, he had to call out.

Moses, however, stood in the heavens, far from earth. He needed only to whisper and the heavens would hear.

And so it is for every one of us during the ten days from Rosh Hashanah to Yom Kippur.

At this time we are all empowered to be like Moses—closer to heaven than to earth.

Take advantage while it lasts. Call out to heaven. Bring it down to earth.

 

Más Cerca del Cielo que de la Tierra

¡Cielos, prestad vuestro oído y hablaré! ¡Tierra, escucha lo que mi boca tiene que decir! (Deuteronomio 32:1)

¡Escuchen cielos y escuchen, oh tierra! (Isaías 1:2)

Isaías invirtió el lenguaje de Moisés. Pidió a la tierra que prestara oídos y llamó a los cielos para que escucharan.

Rabí Akiva explicó:

¿A quién le dices: “Presta tu oído”? A alguien cercano a ti.

Entonces Isaías, que estaba en la tierra, le pidió a la tierra que le prestara atención. Pero al cielo tenía que gritar.

Moisés, sin embargo, estaba en los cielos, lejos de la tierra. Sólo necesitaba susurrar y los cielos lo escucharían.

Y así es para cada uno de nosotros durante los diez días desde Rosh Hashaná hasta Yom Kipur.

En este momento todos tenemos el poder de ser como Moisés: más cerca del cielo que de la tierra.

Aprovecha mientras dure. Llama al cielo. Bájalo a la tierra.
