“BE WHOLEHEARTED (TAMIM) WITH THE L-RD, YOUR G-D.”
Our parasha contains the pasuk (verse): “Be wholehearted (tamim) with the L-rd, your G-d.” (Sefer Devarim 18:13, this and all Bible and Rashi translations, The Judaica Press Complete Tanach) This English version reflects Rashi’s (1040-1105) midrashically-based comment on our verse: “Conduct yourself with Him with simplicity and depend on Him, and do not inquire of the future; rather, accept whatever happens to you with [unadulterated] simplicity and then, you will be with Him and to His portion.”

18 Diles: Así dice el Eterno: ¡Ay de las mujeres que cosen cojines para las coyunturas de los brazos y hacen almohadillas para la cabeza de gente de toda estatura para cazar las almas! ¿Queréis acaso cazar las almas de Mi pueblo y salvar las vuestras?
19 Y Me habéis profanado entre Mi pueblo por puñados de cebada y por bocados de pan para matar las almas que no deben morir y salvar las almas que no deben morir, mintiendo a mi pueblo que escucha mentiras.
20 Por ende, así dice Dios el Eterno: He aquí que Yo soy contra vuestros cojines, con los cuales cazáis las almas como pájaro, los arrancaré de vuestros brazos y liberaré las almas que cazáis como pájaros.

| 22 Because you break the heart of the righteous one with falsehood, whereas I did not pain him, and to strengthen the hands of the wicked one, keeping him from repenting of his way, to sustain him. | כביַ֣עַן הַכְא֚וֹת לֵב־צַדִּיק֙ שֶׁ֔קֶר וַֽאֲנִ֖י לֹ֣א הִכְאַבְתִּ֑יו וּלְחַזֵּק֙ יְדֵ֣י רָשָׁ֔ע לְבִלְתִּי־שׁ֛וּב מִדַּרְכּ֥וֹ הָרָ֖ע לְהַֽחֲיֹתֽוֹ: | |

Deuteronomio 18:9-12
9 dice, “Cuando entres a la tierra que Jehová tu Dios te da, no aprenderás a hacer según las abominaciones de aquellas naciones.
10 No sea hallado en ti quien haga pasar a su hijo o a su hija por el fuego,
11 ni quien practique adivinación, ni agorero, ni sortílego, ni hechicero, ni encantador, ni adivino, ni mago, ni quien consulte a los muertos.
12 Porque es abominación para con Elohim cualquiera que hace estas cosas, y por estas abominaciones Jehová tu Dios echa estas naciones de delante de ti.”

| 9 When you have come to the land the Lord, your God, is giving you, you shall not learn to do like the abominations of those nations. | טכִּ֤י אַתָּה֙ בָּ֣א אֶל־הָאָ֔רֶץ אֲשֶׁר־יְהֹוָ֥ה אֱלֹהֶ֖יךָ נֹתֵ֣ן לָ֑ךְ לֹֽא־תִלְמַ֣ד לַֽעֲשׂ֔וֹת כְּתֽוֹעֲבֹ֖ת הַגּוֹיִ֥ם הָהֵֽם: | |
| 10 There shall not be found among you anyone who passes his son or daughter through fire, a soothsayer, a diviner of [auspicious] times, one who interprets omens, or a sorcerer, | ילֹֽא־יִמָּצֵ֣א בְךָ֔ מַֽעֲבִ֥יר בְּנֽוֹ־וּבִתּ֖וֹ בָּאֵ֑שׁ קֹסֵ֣ם קְסָמִ֔ים מְעוֹנֵ֥ן וּמְנַחֵ֖שׁ וּמְכַשֵּֽׁף: | |
| 11 or a charmer, a pithom sorcerer, a yido’a sorcerer, or a necromancer. | יאוְחֹבֵ֖ר חָ֑בֶר וְשֹׁאֵ֥ל אוֹב֙ וְיִדְּעֹנִ֔י וְדֹרֵ֖שׁ אֶל־הַמֵּתִֽים: | |
| 12 For whoever does these things is an abomination to the Lord, and because of these abominations, the Lord, your God is driving them out from before you. | יבכִּי־תֽוֹעֲבַ֥ת יְהֹוָ֖ה כָּל־עֹ֣שֵׂה אֵ֑לֶּה וּבִגְלַל֙ הַתּֽוֹעֵבֹ֣ת הָאֵ֔לֶּה יְהֹוָ֣ה אֱלֹהֶי֔ךָ מוֹרִ֥ישׁ אוֹתָ֖ם מִפָּנֶֽיךָ: |
